Professor Tara Rothman

Professor Tara Rothman,
Adjunct Professor of Computer Information Systems

QBS Faculty Advisor

When did you become a professor at Quinnipiac University and what do you teach?

My first semester as a professor at Quinnipiac is actually this one, the Fall of 2012.  I am in the Computer Information Systems department in the School of Business. However, I have been affiliated with Quinnipiac for over 40 years as the wife of a faculty member and the mother of two undergraduate sons (classes of 1997 and 2000).

When did you first start ballroom dancing?

I first started ballroom dancing about 12 years ago when friends of our offered to give us lessons in their home. When they retired and moved to Sarasota, FL, they introduced us to Dance In Rhythm in Branford where we continue to take lessons.

What is your favorite type of ballroom dance and why?

I actually love all of the rhythm and all of the ballroom dances and only wish there was more time in the week to take more lessons.  If I had to pick one dance, I guess it would be the Rumba.  However, I really do also love the Cha-cha, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Hustle, Salsa, Foxtrot and Waltz!

When were you were first asked to be an advisor for the Quinnipiac Ballroom Society?

I was asked last week (Aug, 2012).  When the club started, I was an unofficial presence since my husband was the advisor.  I am thrilled to be an official part of QBS now.

What has been your favorite memory of the Quinnipiac Ballroom Society so far?

Absolutely, the Dancing With The QU Stars fundraiser is my favorite memory.  It was one of the most uplifting events I have ever attended.  The club worked incredibly hard to organize the event, and all of their handwork and teamwork paid off.

What do you think makes the Quinnipiac Ballroom Society unique?

The students who are members of QBS make it unique.  They have truly become a warm, welcoming and hardworking family.  Because they are organized, hardworking and team oriented, they are able to accomplish the impossible.  We are so incredibly proud of all of them.

Do you have any advice for people that might be interested in joining the Quinnipiac Ballroom Society?

Just come on out and meet the members.  We know once you do, you will want to be part of this incredible group.  You do NOT have to have any prior dance experience.  You just have to have an interest and be willing to try.  You won’t regret your decision.
